Hiking

Across its thousand acres, the Trail Club is home to miles and miles of trails maintained by dedicated volunteers working alongside our wonderful grounds crew. Exclusively for use by members and their guests, hikers have the opportunity to experience a sense of peace, quiet and privacy not often found on more frequented public trails.

A stroll through our beloved trails takes hikers to nearby ponds and streams, over duckboards and bridges, past historic stone walls and root cellars, over rock scrambles, and through ferns and laurel.  Each Trail has its own landmarks and personality.  Throughout the trails, hikers experience a piece of our country's remarkable history, possibly walking in the footsteps of Revolutionary soldiers (General Washington's Headquarters is only 40 minutes away in Newburgh) and past stone structures perhaps built during battle for protection or shortly after the war to establish boundaries between neighbors. With connections to NYS Department of Environmental Conservation lands, Member hikers can reach beautiful vistas such as at the top of the Ninham Fire Tower with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape.

If solo hiking and solitude are not your preference, the Club's vibrant and active Trail Committee invites members to events such as the Annual Hike along trails 6 and 9. This event culminates in a chili lunch at the Old Stone Cellar and Fire Pit, where members old and young come together with dogs and horses to celebrate tradition and Trail Club camaraderie. Other opportunities for shared time on the trails include the Annual Family Hike, the Spring Hike, the Summer Solstice Hike, and the Thanksgiving Day Hike.

All trails are well marked so that hikers can find their way easily.

Our trail rules are simple: No weapons, no motorized vehicles, pick up any trash you see, and leave no trace of your visit.
